A few months ago we were approached by Polar Bears International (PBI) to sponsor an initiative called Project Polar Bear. The goal of this initiative is for teams of high school students to come up with ways to reduce their carbon footprint and greenhouse gas emissions in their communities. The participating teams were from all over North America, with three finalists headed to San Diego for the announcement of the grand prize winner.
We were very happy to donate the grand prize – a trip for four to Churchill to experience first-hand the effects of climate change on polar bears to the winning team - Brandie Farkas and Emily Goldstein of Louisville, Kentucky. This trip also occurs at a time when we host world-renowned polar bear researchers and scientists, so the winning team will get a great opportunity to understand how much their efforts in reducing their carbon footprint greatly impact the arctic and subarctic ecosystems.
Here are some images that were taken a few weeks ago in San Diego.
