Friday, February 26th, 2010

As we mention in our previous blog, Robert Buchanan of PBI has been awarded the George B. Rabb Conservation Medal from the Chicago Zoological Society (CZS). He will receive his award and be honored at the CZS’s Annual Conservation Dinner on March 2, 2010 in Chicago. You can support the CZS and its conservation efforts around the globe by attending the 2010 Conservation Dinner. Tickets are $150 and can be ordered by calling 708-688-8390.

Below is a great video that the CZS created to tell the story of Robert and his wonderful work with PBI. Congrats again Robert!

Blue Sky Expeditions

Friday, February 26th, 2010

Churchill, Manitoba was featured again on NBC as part of their primetime Winter Olympics coverage.  One of our dogsledding adventure partners, Blue Sky Expeditions, were featured Wednesday night. What makes their story so special is that they are the proud owners of a blind sled dog.  Watch the inspirational video below!

Philadelphia Zoo Visit

Thursday, February 25th, 2010

In between the Boston Globe and the New York Times Travel Shows, we had the opportunity to visit Philadelphia and meet with our good friends at the Philadelphia Zoo yesterday. We have a great relationship with many zoos across the United States and partner with them to host zoo tour groups in Churchill to further educate them on polar bears in their natural environment and the effects they face from climate change.

Kristen, the director of education for the Philadelphia Zoo, took us on a cool tour of the facility. Our favourite was the polar bear exhibit but we may be a bit biased! Check out some of the images of our morning adventure.

Photo Specialist Adventure

Wednesday, February 24th, 2010

One of our highlights after “Polar Bear Season” is receiving images and video that our guests captured on our Polar Bears in Churchill Adventures.  We were very happy to hear from Diana Davidson, a guest on our Photo Specialist level Tundra Buggy Lodge Adventure led by professional photographer Richard Day, who was nice enough to share with us two fun photos of her group in front of a Tundra Buggy. Look at all the camera gear! That’s some serious photography.

FYI – 2010 Polar Bears Season is only 220 days away!

2010 Boston Globe Travel Show

Tuesday, February 23rd, 2010

Over this past weekend, we participated in the 2010 Boston Globe Travel Show in Boston, Massachusetts. It was our first time exhibiting at the show and we had a great time meeting new and exciting people who are as passionate about travel as we are. We were very busy fielding questions about our most recent feature on NBC, and about our Polar Bears in Churchill adventures. We had some great conversations with many interested New Englanders and we cannot wait to host them this year in Canada’s North! Next stop – New York City for the New York Times Travel Show! If you are in the area, Grant and Jaime would love to see you there!

Here are some highlights of Boston Globe Travel show:

Adventure Coordinates

Monday, February 22nd, 2010

We recently received feedback from a guest wondering about the coordinates that we use along with our logo in some of our literature. We love that our guests are that passionate about our company and figured this would be a good opportunity to explain this particular detail of our branding and identity further.

As part of our brand, we have two coordinates by our logo, as reflected in the image below. They represent the two major regions in Canada’s north in which we host guests:

We love questions about our company, so please feel free to send us an email or comment on our blog and we’d be happy to answer!

Buggy Bear at Festival

Thursday, February 18th, 2010

This past weekend our very own Buggy Bear took to Festival du Voyageur alongside PBI Leadership Camp student, Ruth Sangalang.  For those who have never been to Festival du Voyageur, it is a 10-day Manitoba-wide celebration of the fur traders, who established the Red River Colony and the French-Canadian community in Western Canada.

Buggy Bear is also scheduled to make an appearance on Saturday, February 20 at 3:00pm for the All-Mascot Challenge foot race being held at Voyageur Park. If you’re in the area please come cheer him on!

NBC’s Polar Bear Pilgrimage

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

NBC has published online the Churchill polar bear vignette that aired Monday during their prime-time coverage of the Winter Olympics. BIG thanks to NBC who, when considering a trip to experience Churchill’s polar bears, contacted  us. With Skal’s 2009 International ecotourism award and 30 years of Tundra Buggy Adventuring under our belt, we think they made the right choice.

Enjoy!

Local Coverage

Wednesday, February 17th, 2010

We have received a lot of interest and excitement for our Tundra Buggy adventures since being featured by NBC during their 2010 Winter Olympics broadcast on Sunday evening.

In just over 24 hours since the segment aired to over 20 million viewers, we received over 2,500 hits to our FrontiersNorth.com and TundraBuggy.com websites and have made many confirmed bookings for our Polar Bears in Churchill adventures! We are working with NBC to obtain the video so we can share it with everyone on our blog who didn’t have the opportunity to view it on Sunday. Please stay tuned!

In the mean time, check out some articles that were published about us by the Winnipeg Sun, Winnipeg Free Press, and Winnipeg news blogger ChrisD. Finally, please read this humour blog posting that recounts the excitement of one NBC viewer leading up to our polar bear segment!

Welcome NBC Olympic Viewers!

Monday, February 15th, 2010

Earlier this evening on, eastern standard time during their Olympic coverage NBC aired a vignette recounting their time spent with us in Churchill during November 2009.

In terms of media guests, the NBC crew we hosted was first class, the whole way!

As a result of the segment our websites crashed —  GREAT PROBLEM TO HAVE, BY THE WAY – We immediately worked with our good friends and website host provider Daemon Defence Systems and ramped-up our hosting capability to accommodate the traffic. We’re now firing on all cylinders!
