Journalists Feature Northern Lights Adventure

Monday, March 29th, 2010

Our 2010 Northern Lights & Winter Nights adventure will come to an end tomorrow. We had the pleasure of hosting a number of journalists from all over the world on our departure this year to experience the breathtaking views of the Aurora Borealis. From the very first night up in Churchill the group has been treated to amazing lights. They were so vibrant that the group was out on the tundra until 2:00am photographing the night sky!

Our guests have been hard at work capturing the awe-inspiring views in photos, video and in words. Australian journalist Ben Cubby is currently travelling with us and wrote a great article featuring our Northern Lights & Winter Nights adventure for the front pages of the Sydney and Brisbane newspapers. Maine-based journalist, Hilary Nangle, also featured our adventure on her travel blog with a fantastic image of the northern lights above one of our Tundra Buggies (see below).

The image below is of our 2010 Northern Lights & Winter Nights group during their afternoon snowshoeing adventure. Keep an eye on our blog over the next week as we will have plenty more images to share of this amazing adventure!

FNA Celebrates Earth Hour 2010

Friday, March 26th, 2010

Today is an important day for us here at FNA. It’s the day we celebrate Earth Hour in our office. Earth Hour occurs tomorrow at 8:30 PM Local time. We began a tradition last year by celebrating Earth Hour a day early by turning off the lights in our office for an entire day. Each staff member also prepares a cold food item to contribute to an office potluck lunch. We always end up with great food and fun conversation – a perfect celebration. Our efforts were also featured on 102.3 Clear FM’s morning radio show today!

But what we are also very excited to announce is that we have pledged to celebrate Earth Hour every month by turning the lights off in our office. The last Friday of each month is now deemed Frontiers North’s Earth Hour. We hope this generates continued awareness and support for action on climate change, and encourages other companies to do the same in their work environments.

What are you doing for Earth Hour this year?

FNA at the 2010 Chicago Adventures in Travel Expo

Thursday, March 25th, 2010

We wrapped up our 2010 consumer travel show season this past weekend in Chicago, where we participated in the Chicago Adventures in Travel Expo. We walked off our plane on Friday to +14 celsius weather! However, when we woke up to attend the show on Saturday morning, we were greeted with snow. We quickly learned that a little unseasonably cool weather does not stop Chicagoans from leaving their residences. We were again very fortunate to have great crowds on both Saturday and Sunday, and had some great conversations with excited travellers. Check out the images below of the show!

Anvil Digital in Churchill

Friday, March 19th, 2010

This past Autumn we had the pleasure of hosting some of our Winnipeg industry partners up in Churchill to experience a full-day Tundra Buggy Adventure, and to also help us honour Debby the Polar Bear by Gordon Point. Justin Gagnon and Carly Thompson of Anvil Digital (the agency that created our amazing 3D rendering of Tundra Buggy One featured on our Tundra Buggy website) joined us and put together this great video blog of their experience with us. Check it out!

Polar Bear Favourites

Wednesday, March 17th, 2010

Happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Although we currently don’t have any images that depict our love for this festive day, we figured we would post some more polar bear favourites that were captured by Dave Allcorn this past Autumn both near our Tundra Buggy Lodge and on our Legendary Cape Churchill adventure. As you may recall, we posted some of his beautiful summer images last Friday on our blog.

Enjoy!

Northern Lights Facts

Tuesday, March 16th, 2010

We are exactly one week away from our 2010 Northern Lights & Winter Nights adventure in Churchill. We are very excited to be hosting a great group of guests and media on this trip, as they will witness and photograph some truly spectacular aurora.

Our Adventure Planners receive many questions about the northern lights and what causes them to form in the night sky. Not only do we have a great section of our website that answers these questions, but we also came across this cool video posted by the BBC. On it, experts explain how the awe-inspiring Aurora Borealis are created. Check it out below!

From Billboards to Magazines…

Monday, March 15th, 2010

It really does seem like Merv has been everywhere these past few months. And we don’t mean his travels to Australia, India and now Germany already this year (and it’s only March!)

Red River College’s Distinguished Alumnus was featured a few weeks ago in both the Winnipeg Free Press and in Red River College’s Red Magazine, a quarterly publication about the college community.

Check out Merv’s feature write-up!

Summer in Churchill

Friday, March 12th, 2010

Most people know Churchill for its amazing polar bear viewing and Tundra Buggy adventures in October and November. But what a lot of people don’t know is that in July and August not only are there 3,000 beluga whales in the Churchill River, but there is still an opportunity to see polar bears on our summer Tundra Buggy adventures – just not in the numbers that you would see in autumn. Pair all this with witnessing brilliant colours of flora on the tundra, unique birding and wildlife viewing, Churchill is a very inspiring place to be in the summer months.

Take a look at some images that our summer Tundra Buggy Driver and Tundra Buggy Lodge Maintenance guru, Dave Allcorn, took during his summer months in Churchill in 2009:
