Here are more awesome images we took a few days ago from our helicopter tour of the Churchill Wildlife Management Area.
Two days ago we had an opportunity to go up in a helicopter and take some images and video of the Churchill Wildlife Management Area. We were able to capture some nice shots of the freeze-up this year of the Hudson Bay. With the temperatures holding steady around -5 celsius this week, the ice has been slow to form.
We were very fortunate to witness Manitoba Conservation and Hudson Bay Helicopter perform a polar bear lift this afternoon at the Polar Bear Compound in Churchill.
To give some background, any bear that is caught by Manitoba Conservation within Churchill limits is placed in the Polar Bear Compound for an extended period of time. The bears receive little to no interaction with humans and other bears that are also being kept there.
This particular bear was in the compound for 30 days and was flown further north of Churchill.
We had the opportunity to join our guests on a unique three-hour helicopter tour to Nunalla, Manitoba. We flew approximately one-hour from Churchill westward across the Churchill River and Button Bay and north to Nunalla. Tons of amazing wildlife was spotted on the journey including moose, caribou, and polar bears. After a brief stop in Nunalla to view unique archaeological sites like tent rings and an unmarked grave, the group went back up in the air for a few minutes only to land at the border of Manitoba and Nunavut.
Here are some images from the Nunalla Helicopter adventure.
2009 will mark the second year for Frontiers North’s Churchill Recycling Program. With the help from our valued partners, we ship any recyclables (such as plastic containers, aluminum cans, juice boxes, cardboard and paper) used in Churchill on our Tundra Buggy excursions, Tundra Buggy Lodge, Tundra Buggy Gift Shop, Frontiers North office, Staff houses, Hudson Bay Helicopter’s office and Polar Bears International Staff houses to recycling facilities in Winnipeg.
We are very proud of this initiative, as it aids us in inching closer to sustainability in our business operations.
